We’ve been serving the Norfolk community since the September 1972. We began as a corporation by the name of “Community Concern of Norfolk”, which was founded to operate a “Handi-Bus,” that provided transportation to the elderly and disabled. Community Concern of Norfolk, Inc. operated until the mid-1990s and then became Norfolk Public Transportation in 2000. With this transition, Norfolk Public Transportation was operated by a board of directors who also worked for the Norfolk Senior Center.
In May 2018, with a new community-based board, Norfolk Public Transportation began working with the Nebraska Department of Transportation to determine how to improve public transit in Norfolk and the surrounding area. In September 2021, the board decided to rebrand public transit with a more regional focus and the new name North Fork Area Transit was unveiled. North Fork Area Transit is quickly growing to service not only Norfolk but Northeast Nebraska. We celebrated 50 years in 2022!
