If you can drive or afford a car, you may not understand what it’s like to rely on walking, public transit or asking for rides. For nearly a third of people living in the United States – people with disabilities, children, seniors and others who can’t afford a vehicle – this is their everyday experience.

We need your support! The generosity of local donors is what allows us to be on the road each day helping our community. As a non-profit organization, it is essential that we raise local funds each year to operate.

Our local economy depends on transit connections to medical facilities and major employers. Public transit is a tool that links everyone together and helps riders who are helpless without it. From a parent trying to get a job interview, to a senior citizen going to pick up their medications, public transit is the light of hope for so many. North Fork Area Transit (NFAT) provides service in Norfolk and within a 30-mile radius. NFAT was awarded federal and state grant funding for FY2024 and 2025 and continues to need local partners in the community to meet the required local matching funds.

OUR STORIES……Joe, who is wheelchair bound, relies on NFAT as his main means of transportation to run errands, visit relatives, and keep appointments. Without our service, Joe would have to relocate to Omaha to live with family.

Mary lives in an assisted living center and attends church every Sunday using NFAT. She travels from church to lunch at a local restaurant and then to get groceries. NFAT is her primary mode of travel. She is a thriving elderly resident choosing to live in Norfolk, spend money in Norfolk, and have an active life in our community.
